Finding anomalies with solar panels is easy using a thermal imaging camera. Most faults create a thermal pattern of some description and stand out quite clearly in comparison to their healthy neighbouring solar panels. This is the reason thermography for solar is so valued, it immediately shows you the health of the solar plant more efficiently than blindly electrical testing alone.
Solar businesses recognise this but have traditionally undertaken just a small sample of the solar plant using handheld thermal imaging cameras. This is time consuming, expensive and completely arbitrary.
Using a drone to lift the thermal imager allows it to be held at a better angle above the solar modules that can’t be achieved with handheld devices. The UAV will also be able to travel the site far quicker than an operative on the ground, resulting in 100% of the asset being inspected and therefore no faults left undetected
