Previously the inspection of Solar plants was messy. Luckily using a drone to lift the thermal imager helps a lot, but when anomalies are captured in the Solar plant, the next challenge is locating those faults within thousands of almost identical Solar modules – here intelligent software has come to the rescue.
The Scopito platform has delivered great savings to another market, this time in the form of Solar Inspections.
Conventionally the inspection of Solar plants has been very complicated, not only collecting and recording the substantial amounts of data, but how to manage, analyse and share it efficiently. This is what the Scopito platform was built for; Futurewise Aerial recognised this and has worked with Scopito to devise a workflow to inspect solar plants and deliver high-quality results almost instantly.
Finding anomalies with solar panels is easy using a thermal imaging camera. Most faults create a thermal pattern of some description and stand out quite clearly in comparison to their healthy neighbouring solar panels. This is the reason thermography for solar is so valued, it immediately shows you the health of the solar plant more efficiently than blindly electrical testing alone. Solar businesses recognise this but have traditionally undertaken just a small sample of the solar plant using handheld thermal imaging cameras. This is time consuming, expensive and completely arbitrary.
Using a drone to lift the thermal imager allows it to be held at a better angle above the solar modules that can’t be achieved with handheld devices. The UAV will also be able to travel the site far quicker than an operative on the ground, resulting in 100% of the asset being inspected and therefore no faults left undetected
When anomalies are captured in the solar plant, the next challenge is how to locate and report those faults, so that operatives can return to site to do any remedial works. Solar modules by their nature all look the same and it is very easy to lose your place in amongst a sea of 40,000+ for example.
A well planned and methodical workflow combined with Scopito’s custom maps feature alleviates this problem to such an extent that future inspectors will unlikely ever consider doing things any other way.
The Scopito platform is not only the perfect place to store your data but becomes a vital tool in the analysis of it. You can simply and quickly work through your high-resolution imagery, zooming in for a closer inspection, annotating, tagging and reporting. If you or your clients need to take the thermal image to another program to adjust any thermal settings, then this is also very simple.
Scopito can even analyse the inspection for you!
Scopito has already saved inspectors countless hours of pain and frustration, helping them to streamline and organise the entire process and to keep their solar inspections simplified.
